Moncagua, El Salvador

The first time I saw this place in a photo, I could not believe it was a place in El Salvador. We have no exit to the Atlantic Ocean, I thought. But this magical place has nothing to do with the Atlantic Ocean.

These are caves with water springs and white sandy soil, which is formed by the dust that falls from the walls of the caves. That's what makes the water to look that clear, with a beautiful turquoise color.

Moncagua is in a tourist centre in San Miguel department of El Salvador called "El Capulin". They charge a entrance fee of $1.0 to enter. The place is not in a very good shape, but you can certainly enjoy the natural clear water pools under the caves.

How to get there?

You can take Panamericana road. Before getting to San Miguel town, you can take a detour to Moncagua. Once you get to the central park of Moncagua, you have to turn right and you'll see "El Capulin" tourist centre's entrance about 500 mts from there. There are parking spots available outside the Centre.

What can you do at the place?

Beside swimming in the natural pools, you can bring your own food and have a picnic with your family and friends at the tourist center. They also sell food and snacks inside.

Definitely stopping by Moncagua is an adventure you won't regret. Enjoy and share with your friends so they can discover this magical place as well.
